Offered here is a match-worn Peru National Team home jersey from a May 1, 1978 friendly against Brazil, personally worn by legendary Peruvian striker Teofilo Cubillas, known throughout world football as "El Nene."
The short-sleeve jersey is constructed in heavy off-white wool knit — consistent with late 1970s South American national team production — and features Peru's iconic broad diagonal red sash running from the right shoulder to the lower left, a design as distinctive as any in international football. The turn-down collar is integrated into the jersey body with a two-button placket. The right chest displays the embroidered Peru national team crest in red featuring the national flag design above "PERU" lettering. The reverse carries an applied grey "#10" numeral that crosses the distinctive red sash, partially obscuring the number in a manner unique to Peru's bold kit design.
The jersey presents with appropriate wear for its age and use, including fabric softening, some discoloration, and general patina consistent with a nearly five-decade-old match garment. Cubillas was one of the great stars of the 1970 World Cup and led Peru into the 1978 World Cup in Argentina, where this jersey originates. From the Oscar Collection with direct provenance.
The Oscar Bernardi Collection
This shirt comes from the personal collection of José Oscar Bernardi, better known as Oscar, who played for the Brazil National Team from 1977 to 1986. Included is a letter of provenance signed by Oscar. Most jerseys in the collection were obtained directly through player swaps after competition. Others were acquired via gifts or trade with footballers in Oscar’s wide network of teammates and friends. At age 71, he still resides in Brazil and is ready for his collection to be appreciated by others in the hobby.
