Right-hander Dick Tidrow was a setup man for the New York Yankees when they won back-to-back World Series titles over the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1977 and ’78. He played a total of six seasons in the Bronx and won 41 decisions up until the time he was traded to the Chicago Cubs in the middle of the ’79 campaign. This lot features his game worn 1978-79 New York Yankees game worn home jersey
The white pinstriped jersey includes the iconic Yankees script navy blue logo on the front left breast. Proper Wilson manufacturer’s tagging (size 46) is present on the left front tail including washing instructions. An additional identifier can be found on the inside rear collar as there is a sewn-on white cloth nameplate that includes blue saddle stitching that reads “Tidrow 78 2” to indicate the player season and the set. The jersey shows solid game use and his uniform number “19” is located on the back of the jersey in navy blue tackle twill. What’s interesting about this jersey is that it includes a black armband that was sewn onto the left sleeve following the death of then-Yankee Captain Thurman Munson (August 2 1979). Tidrow was no longer on the team at that point; the armband was added to jersey number “19” and worn by a late-season call-up pitcher named Rick Anderson. The jersey is a piece of Yankee history that dates to one of the saddest seasons in Bronx history.
