Featured here is Steve Garvey's 1977-79 game-usedHillerich & Bradsby / Louisville Slugger professional model bat from thepersonal collection of former Big League catcher Phil Roof. Garvey spent the majority of his 19-year MLB career with the Los Angeles Dodgers (1969-82) before finishing up with the San Diego Padres (1983-87). Known as "Mr. Clean" he came up as a third-baseman before settling in at first base where he won four Gold Glove awards. The 10-time All-Star 1974 N.L. MVP and 1981 World Champion finished his fabulous career with 2599 hits and a stellar .294 batting average. He swung this piece of lumber during his peak power years launching 82 home runs with 338 RBI during the 1977-79 span.
The 35-inch 33.7-oz. ash bat is exhibits evidence ofexcellent use. There are several ball and cleat marks visible on the barrel along withsome black streak marks running along the upper handle. The model number “C263” is stampedinto the barrel and Garvey's No. “6” is penned in green markeron the barrel end. The barrel contains eight small "bat boy nails" to fix a slight chip/crack or excessive grain separation. A nice Garvey example fresh to the hobby.
