Featured here is the great Carl Yastrzemski’s 1976 game-used and autographed Hillerich & Bradsby / Louisville Slugger Bicentennial bat from the personal collection of former MLB catcher Phil Roof. It is graded GU 8.5 by the experts at PSA/DNA. Yaz won seven Gold Gloves and earned 18 All-Star nods during his first-ballot Hall of Fame career. In 1967 he took home the A.L. MVP by winning the Triple Crown a feat that went unmatched for 45 years. In 1976 when he swung this piece of lumber the outfielder and first-baseman batted .267 with 21 homers and 102 RBI.

The 34.5-inch 33.9-oz. ash bat is uncracked and exhibits evidence of excellent use. Grain swelling from repeated ball contact is evident on the back barrel. Many ball marks and stitch impressions are visible all over the barrel. Green and red bat rack marks can be seen on the barrel and handle. There is a light coat of pine tar on the handle. The model number “W215” is stamped into the barrel and Munson’s iconic No. “8” is penned in black marker on the knob. A rare one-year style this 1976 ordered bat features the commemorative Bicentennial logo stamped just to the right of the center H&B brand. Yaz has signed the barrel in a faded 6/10 red marker. Fresh to the hobby after four decades in a former MLB player's possession this awesome Bicentennial example represents an incredible opportunity for the esteemed bat connoisseur or Yaz collector alike.

Includes LOA from Phil Roof. Full LOA (1B12507) from John Taube of PSA/DNA with GU 8.5 grade. Autograph pre-certified by PSA/DNA.

Provenance: This lot comes directly from the personal collection of former MLB catcher Phil Roof who logged 15 seasons (1961 1964-77) behind the dish with nine different franchises most notably the Minnesota Twins. Roof spent five consecutive years (1971-76) with the Twins where he was teammates with Harmon Killebrew. Following his playing career Roof served as a bullpen coach for three teams before managing in the Twins organization for 16 years (mostly in the PCL) until retiring from full-time duties in 2005. He received each of the bats featured in this auction directly from the players as gifts.
