The nephew of former Utah all-American Vern Gardner Ken Gardner went to the University of Utah where he played for legendary basketball coach Jack Gardner. He teamed with Mike Newlin to win 46 games in three years and was first-team all-Western Athletic Conference as a senior. After being cut by the Phoenix Suns Gardner headed overseas to play for a professional team in France that included the father of current NBA star Tony Parker. He played seven years in France and won a couple of French championships before returning to Utah for a single season with the ABAs Utah Stars in 1975-76.
Across the back of Gardners red white and blue warm-up jacket is "Utah Stars" team name and logo in white red and blue screen print. The warm-up jacket includes a Rawlings manufacturers tag (size 42) inside the button path with an adjacent flag tag reading: 1 INCH EXTRA LENGTH. On the back inside waistband of the accompanying pants is the "Rawlings" manufacturers tag with size "34" on it. Sewn next to that is a special tag marked 36 INSEAM. The jackets and pants show minor wear and appear to have no alterations of any kind.
