Here is a rare and historically significant Chile National Team home jersey from the 1973-74 World Cup qualifying campaign, match-worn by star center-back Alberto Quintano — nicknamed "El Mariscal" (The Marshall) — and preserved in the Oscar Bernardi Collection.
The short-sleeve jersey is constructed in solid red cotton, unadorned in the minimalist style of 1970's South American international football. It features a crew neck collar and custom-cuffed sleeve ends. The left chest bears the embroidered Chile national team crest, a shield-style badge in blue and red with a white star at center and "CHILE" lettering. The reverse carries a white felt "3" numeral in a hand-applied style with visible brushwork detail, now heavily frayed from age. Tagged by Julitex with the textile brand's white label inside the collar, the shirt has remnants of two strips of removed tape from the left sleeve where an armband may have been worn.
The jersey presents with ample match use evidence in the form of stretching, fraying and light surface staining to the bright red fabric. Chile competed in the World Cup qualifying rounds during this era, and Quintano was a key defensive contributor earning 50 caps from 1967-79. The Oscar Bernardi Collection
This shirt comes from the personal collection of José Oscar Bernardi, better known as Oscar, who played for the Brazil National Team from 1977 to 1986. Included is a letter of provenance signed by Oscar. Most jerseys in the collection were obtained directly through player swaps after competition. Others were acquired via gifts or trade with footballers in Oscar’s wide network of teammates and friends. At age 71, he still resides in Brazil and is ready for his collection to be appreciated by others in the hobby.
