Bob Seagren was one of the world's top pole vaulters in the late 1960's and early 1970's. A graduate of the University of Southern California he won four NCAA titles and was the Pan-Am Games champion in 1967 as a college junior. He posted eight world bests marks form 1966 to '69 including Olympic Gold at the 1968 Mexico City Games and cleared a world record height three times during that period. He again broke the the world record in 1972 and took home a controversial silver medal at the '72 Munich Olympics after he was forced to use an unfamiliar pole due to a last-minute ruling prohibiting the use of the new "Banana" pole that he had grown accustomed to. Seagren later got into acting and appeared in a few popular TV shows and movies.

Offered here is a pair of garments worn by the great track and field athlete. First is Seagren's 1972 Munich Olympic Games opening ceremonies sports coat. The white jacket sports the lovely 1972 Munich Olympics USA patch on the left breast. On the right inside pocket is manufacturer's tagging from "KINGS ROAD Clothing shop - Sears The Men's Store" with dry cleaning instruction on the opposite inside coat pocket. No size is indicated. It presents remarkable condition with light wear but it could use a dry clean to remove some handling stains. Next is Seagren's 1968 USC letterman's sweater sporting the orange and burgundy SC logo on the left front chest and a Whiting Los Angeles manufacturers tag with "Seagren" stitched in black inside the collar. No size is indicated. The button-down sweater is made of 100% virgin wool and shows light wear remaining in outstanding condition. It comes with an 8 x 10 photo of Seagren competing in his USC track & field singlet.

Includes Letter of Provenance from the Newport Sports Museum. The founder of the museum John Hamilton is a fellow USC alum and chairman of the USC Athletic Hall of Fame. Hamilton himself was enshrined in 2015 for his role in developing the USC Hall of Fame in 1994 as well as his many charitable endeavors including the museum.
