August 15 1972 Maurice Stokes Memorial Basketball program from the personal collection of sports columnist and television analyst Peter Vecsey. The benefit game played at Kutsher's Country Club in Monticello New York was originally begun as a way to raise money for the mounting medical bills for the blossoming NBA star who was stuck down in just his 3rd professional season. After Stokes' passing the game continued as a way to raise funds for other NBA players struck down by illness and injury. Inside has excellent articles on Stokes Wilt Chamberlain and Walt Frazier. Vescey has neatly scored the contest on the score page. Program in overall nice condition with a name and phone number in ink on top of front cover.
