The 1972-73 New York Knicks finished with an overall regular season record of 57-25 which was good enough for a second-place finish behind the Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conferences Atlantic Division standings. Coached by Red Holzman the Knicks were led by an All-Star caliber starting five that included Willis Reed at center Dave DeBusschere and Bill Bradley at forward and Earl Monroe and Walt Frazier at guard. All five starters are now enshrined in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. Once the playoffs started however the Knicks caught fire and defeated the then-Baltimore Bullets (four games to one) the Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference Finals (four games to three) before defeating the L.A. Lakers in the NBA Finals in five games. This lot features a framed and matted limited-edition (6 of 10) Giclee on canvas color print showing the five starters all positioned around their mentor Coach Holzman. With elements of New York Citys Madison Square at the top and bottom of the painting the Giclee beautifully done by sports artist Doo S. Oh literally spells out NBA CHAMPIONS 1972 KNICKS 1973. The five starters have all signed the print in silver next to their likenesses and three more team members (Dick Barnett Jerry Lucas and Henry Bibby) have also added their signatures in silver along with the artist. A terrific sports collectible that measures 34" wide by 46" high overall commemorating the last New York Knicks squad to win the coveted NBA title!
