Bill Singer was a starting pitcher for the Los Angeles Dodgers from 1964 to '72 highlighted by an All-Star appearance in '69 after winning 20 games and sporting a 2.34 ERA. The righty threw a no-hitter in 1970 and would make another All-Star game in '73 as a member of the cross-town Angels. A vintage gamer from the pitching star would be desirable in any fashion but the fact that it hails from the 1971 season--the only year in which the Dodgers featured this unique side stripe style and the last year of flannels before moving to knit fabric--makes it even more of a collector's treat.
Tagged by Rawlings (size 44) behind the collar the gray road flannel has "Singer" and "71" properly chain-stitched in blue on the lower front tail. Sewn inside the tail are the wash instructions tag and "Set 1 1971" flag tag. The classic blue script Dodgers logo (trimmed in white) is sewn across the chest with Singer's No. 40 on both the front in red and the back in blue (trimmed in white). All numbers and letters are done in felt. The unique trim pattern in blue-on-white stripe added to the 1970 style and remomved in '72 appears around the collar along the sleeves and around the sleeve ends.
A true "gamer" in every sense of the word the shirt exhibits obvious sweating and significant fraying around the collar as well as two small holes in the rear shirt tail. There is some separation in the back '0' felt number from wear and age. Overall it remains in outstanding all-original condition. We can't emphasize enough how hard it is to find this one-year style '71 Dodgers jersey in the market.
