Albert Fred "Red" Schoendienst is known to his fans simply as Red. As a player Red was a reliable hitter excellent base-runner and steady fielding 2nd baseman who spent 19 seasons with the Cardinals Giants and Milwaukee Braves winning two World Series as Cardinal and making 10 All-Star teams. He finished with 2449 hits and a career .289 average. In 1965 Red took over the managerial position for the St. Louis Cardinals for 12 seasons. During that time the Cardinals won the NL Pennant in 1967 and 1968 and the World Series in 1967. Schoendienst is still with the Cardinals as a special assistant/coach and has now been in uniform for a remarkable 69 consecutive seasons as either a player or coach. Presented here are a nice pair of turf shoes worn by Schoendienst in the 1970's during his managing tenure with the Redbirds. The red Pony shoes with white logo show moderate game use with some signs of deterioration on the inside of the shoe lining. The exterior leather has held up very well. Red has signed the outside on the right shoe in black felt pen with the inscription "To Mickie The best to you." They are personalized to Mike (aka Mickie) grandson of the late George Kissell another long-tenured coach in the Cardinals organization. The signature presents very well and rates 8-9/10 in our opinion.

Includes Letter of Authenticity from Kissell's grandson. Pre-certified by PSA/DNA.

The definition of a "baseball lifer" George Kissell spent 68 years in the St. Louis Cardinals organization. Starting in 1940 he played three seasons in the minor leagues before serving in World War II. He then worked as a manager instructor and scout in the Cards farm system from 1946 to 1968 and coached at the big league level 1969-75. After that Kissell coached at spring training and directed winter instructional camps. He mentored many players and future managers most notably Joe Torre and Tony LaRussa who said Kissell touched as many lives as anybody who's ever been in uniform in this game. In 2005 the Cardinals named their spring training clubhouse in Jupiter Fla. after him. George Kissell was still serving as the teams senior field coordinator for player development in 2008 when he died at the age of 88. Each item from his collection comes courtesy of his grandson.
