April 8 1974 was the date that saw Hammerin Hank Aaron break Babe Ruths longstanding all-time record for career home runs by launching round-tripper No. 715. It was a decade that saw Aaron emerge from the shadow of Ruth and announce his arrival as the new long-ball sheriff in town. This lot includes a game-worn Atlanta Braves batting helmet used by Aaron during those monumental days. The two-tone red-and-blue batting helmet (size 7 1/8) shows plenty of game use including pine tar streaks across the Braves A logo across the front of the helmet. The inside padding of the helmets dome includes 44 (Aarons uniform number) in black marker and his last name Aaron appears on the side padding also in black marker. Aaron signed the top of the red bill of the batting helmet in black marker. A great piece of game-worn sports memorabilia celebrating one of baseballs greatest home run bashers of all time.
