Easily one of the most beloved players in the storied history of the Pittsburgh Pirates franchise Willie Stargell wore this spectacular 1970 Pirates home vest jersey during the 1970 season a pivotal year that launched the franchise's greatest sustained run of success in the modern era as they won the first of six division crowns they would earn in the decade. The World Series title would come the following year; indeed the famed club would win five East crowns in six seasons before slowing a bit toward the end of the decade. Finding a game-used jersey from a legendary figure like Stargell would be enough but the import is magnified by the unique nature of the vest jersey making it particularly coveted by Pirates fans and then consider the inclusion of Stargell's elegant and unique black marker autograph with its distinctive list to the port side (like Willie).

The home flannel retains the blazing color and contrast from the striking black felt lettering and Stargell's No. 8 front and back along with the intricate piping in gold and black on collar and arm pits. A wash tag appears on the front-left tail with attached small flag tag with "Set 1 #8P 1970"; a missing manufacturer's tag provides the only slight stutter to an otherwise eloquent and worthy treasure. That said the shirt is largely problem free save only for a a wee bit of fraying on the black-and-gold stitching on the arm pits. As noted earlier the addition of the stunning Stargell autograph directly beneath his No. 8 on the front is a great enhancement to an already imposing artifact.

Includes a Letter of Provenance from The Newport Sports Museum.
