J.C. Martin logged 14 major league seasons with three differentclubs: the Chicago White Sox the New York Mets and the Chicago Cubs. Used mostly as a utility catcher Martin spent the majority of hiscareer with the White Sox (1959 to ’67) but captured a World Series ringwith the "Miracle Mets"in ’69. Martin filled in at catcher for the Cubbies during his final three seasons in the Majors (1970-72) where he was teammates with Hall of Fame third-baseman Ron Santo.

During a home game in 1970 one in which Martin did not start and was warming up a Cubs reliever in the bullpen Santo hit a home run down the left-field line into the Wrigley Field basket that hangs just over the ivy-covered wall. The ball fell back onto the field and Martin quickly retrieved it apparently keeping it for himself. This account is described in his included letter of authenticity. Santo hit 342 career home runs so I guess there were plenty to go around for teammates and friends. The ONL (Feeney) baseball shows strong evidence of usage with contact marks and dirt. Santo has autographed the top panel in 9/10 blue fountain pen with "1970 Cubs" inscribed. It is unknown which career home run this was for Santo who launched a total of 26 in 1970 to go along with 114 RBI and a .267 average. Nevertheless any home run ball hit by a Hall of Famer is hard to come by in the hobby.

Includes J.C. Martin LOA. Autograph pre-certified by PSA/DNA.
