Offered here is a pair of ticket stubs from 1970 NBA Finals between the L.A. Lakers and New York Knicks, an epic seven-game series that brought New York its first NBA championship. Games 1, 2, 5 and 7 were played at Madison Square Garden. Our consignor attended Games 2, 5 and 7. These are his former two stubs. (His Game 7 stub -- "Willis Reed Game" -- is in the previous lot.)
This Game 2 stub graded GD 2 (MK) is the first one PSA has ever authenticated, according to its pop report. As for Game 5, only six stubs have been PSA slabbed and this VG 3 (MK) is the second-highest graded. The PSA flips note each game's individual leaders. In Game 2, Knicks point guard recorded a triple-double (11 points, 11 assists and 12 rebounds) in a losing effort. Wilt Chamberlain tallied 24 points and 19 boards for the Lakers who won a tight 105-103 contest. Nodded at two games apiece, Game 5 was a battle of attrition for New York as star center Willis Reed (league MVP that season) left the game early with a torn thigh muscle. Frazier's 21 points, 12 dimes and seven boards led a balanced attack with five others in double figures. The Knicks won, 107-100, to take a critical 3-2 series lead. Reed's heroics and Frazier's clutch performance in Game 7 would seal New York's first NBA title.
The green colored stubs from the 2nd Promenade -- both the same exact seat, just like the Game 7 stub in Lot 395 -- were torn on the bottom by the MSG usher. Print remains bold and surface mostly clean on the fronts. The reverse of each is clean, save for notations in blue ballpoint ("MK" qualifiers) from the original attendee who attended each game 54 years ago as a teenager.
