Six-foot six-inch Gus Johnson was selected by thethen-Baltimore Bullets with the 10th overall pick in the 1963 NBA Draft. A small forward out of the University of Idaho Johnson went on to play 10seasons in the NBA (nine with the Bullets) and finished his professional basketball career as a member of the Indianapolis Pacers who were then(1972-73) competing as members of the rival ABA. He averaged a double-double for his career as he tallied 16.2 points and 12.1 rebounds per outing. This lot features Johnson’s 1970-71 game-worn uniform with the Baltimore Bullets a season in which the team powered its way to the NBAFinals before being swept by the Lew Alcindor-led Milwaukee Bucks four games to zero. In fact on May 1 1971 the day after the Bucks won the NBA title is when Alcindor adopted the Muslim name of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. During the regular season Johnson played in 66 games and averaged 18.2 points and an astounding 17.1 boards per outing.

The "Wilson [size] 46" manufacturer’s tag appears on the front left tail of the gray polyester jersey which exhibits good game use and reads “bullets” across the front in faded red tackle twill outlined in faded navy blue. His uniform number “25” follows underneath in similar tackle twill fashion. Elastic orange white and blue trim outlines the collar and sleeve areas. The back of the jersey is sporting his number “25” in seven-inch tall numerals. The accompanying polyester gray shorts (size 36) aresporting orange satin trim around the waist and down either side with the proper Wilson manufacturer’s tag located on the inner rear waistband. White tackle twill outlined in navy blue spells out “BULLETS” on either side of theshorts and the official NBA embroidered logo appears on the right thigh. Noticeable fraying appears outside and inside the shorts but the original white draw string remains intact. Getty images 482821028 and 482821030 show this exact style.
