The late Rudy LaRusso a 6’ 7” power forward played 10 seasons in the NBA. Banging the boards for both the Minneapolis and Los Angeles Lakers as well as the San Francisco Warriors the lanky LaRusso was a five-time NBA All-Star Game selection who turned in a remarkable final season (1968-69) when he averaged 20.1 points and 8.1 rebounds per game. His overall career averages after playing in 736 NBA games were 15.6 points 9.4 rebounds and 2.1 assists per outing. This lot features LaRusso’s 1969 NBA All-Star Game-worn uniform when he scored six points and pulled down six boards as the West squad dropped a 123-112 decision to the East at the Louisville Convention Center on January 28.
The red tank-top made of durene material reads “WEST” across the front in white tackle twill letters sewn directly onto the jersey. LaRusso’s uniform number “35” is positioned just below it in similar tackle twill fashion. Proper Wilson manufacturer’s tagging (size 46) is present on the left front tail complete with washing instructions. On the back of the jersey is LaRusso’s uniform number “35” again in white tackle numbers stretching 9.5” tall. Noticeable puckering and fraying of the numbers and letters is present. The accompanying red satin shorts (size 36) show moderate use and include a single white stripe down either side. The proper Wilson manufacturing tag is located on the rear inside waistband and the original white draw string remains intact. Shrinkage has occurred with both garments through multiple washings. A memorable reminder of what life and uniforms were like in the early days of the NBA. Nice view of LaRusso wearing this uniform in the video below at the 1:00 mark.
This jersey comes from the renowned “Lakers Shrine” collection of SCP Auctions President David Kohler who acquired it directly from LaRusso’s family several years ago. Letter from MEARS graded perfect A10.
