Atlanta Braves road jersey worn by Hall of Fame reliever Hoyt Wilhem in 1969. He is recognized as the first pitcher to have saved 200 games in his career and the first pitcher to appear in 1000 games. He is also one of the oldest players to have pitched in the major leagues; his final appearance was 16 days short of his 50th birthday. Wilhelm retired with the lowest career earned run average of any major league hurler after 1927 (Walter Johnson) who pitched more than 2000 innings. A 47-year-old Wilhelm used this jersey in 1969 as he helped Atlanta in winning the Western Division in the first-year of that format for MLB. Wilhelm was 2-0 for the Braves that season after being traded to Atlanta from California logging a microscopic ERA of 0.73. The gray flannel jersey is lettered "Braves" across the front and features the number "39" on the reverse. All letters and numerals are appliqud in navy on red tackle twill. The iconic Atlanta Braves "Screaming Indian" patch appears on the left sleeve. The uniform number size and year ("39 42 69") are chain-stitched in blue upon a gray strip tag in the collar. Located on the left front tail are the blue "Spalding" label a "42" size tag adjacent a laundry tag below and an adjacent strip tag reading "Set 1 1969." The jersey appears to be completely original and displays moderate wear.
