Played at Houston’s Astro Dome on July 9, the 1968 Mid-Summer Classic was the first to be held indoors. As this was the “Year of the Pitcher,” the game’s big stars were the pitchers, and Tom Seaver, Don Drysdale, Juan Marichal, and Steve Carlson did their jobs well. Despite the presence of such outstanding sluggers as Hank Aaron, Carl Yastrzemski, Mickey Mantle, Harmon Killebrew and Rusty Staub, only one run was scored as the Nationals shut out the Americans, 1-0. The game’s lone run was scored by Willie Mays who had gotten on base with a first inning single off Luis Tiant. This full, unused ticket to the ’68 All-Star Game shows just light wear on its edges and displays wonderfully. The real prize of this piece is the signature of the game’s batting star, Willie Mays. The Hall of Famer signature is in bold black marker and leaps off the blue sky behind the Astro Dome. The ticket has been encapsulated and graded EX-MT 6 by PSA.
