Offered here is a Super Bowl I ticket stub for the very first Super Bowl featuring the Green Bay Packers and Kansas City Chiefs on January 15 at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. In June 1966 the NFL and AFL announced a merger resulting initially in the creation of a title game between the two league champions at the end of the '66 season. The Packers launched the Super Bowl series by whipping the AFL champion Kansas City Chiefs 35-10 behind the passing of Bart Starr the receiving of Max McGee and a key interception by All-Pro safety Willie Wood. Vince Lombardi's repeating NFL champions broke open the game with three second-half touchdowns. Starr completed 16 of 23 passes for 250 yards and two touchdowns and was chosen as the game's Most Valuable Player. The Packers collected $15000 per player and the Chiefs $7500 apiece - the largest single-game shares in the history of team sports at the time.
This inaugural stub is encapsulated by PSA and graded VG-EX 4 and designated "MK" due to the impression left on the front from the act of writing. The impression can be viewed at an angle and starts at the top of the "AFL-NFL" blue lettering on the lower front. Otherwise this is a great stub to add to one's collection.
