Julian Javier was a solid second baseman who played the first 12 of his 13 major league seasons for the St. Louis Cardinals. A career .257 hitter Javier turned in his best season of all in 1967 when he helped the Redbirds win the World Series after batting .281 during the regular season with 146 hits including 16 doubles and 14 home runs. His efforts placed him ninth in the running for N.L. MVP. Interestingly three of his teammates finished ahead of him in the MVP race: Orlando Cepeda (first) Tim McCarver (second) and Lou Brock (seventh). This lot features Javier's 1967 St. Louis Cardinals game-worn home jersey from that world championship season.
The wonderfully preserved white flannel jersey boasts proper "Rawlings" tagging (size 40) on the left front tail positioned just above red chain-stitching reading "Javier 67" to reflect player and season in question. Further a washing instructions tag exists just below the chain-stitching and includes a sewn-on flag tag reading "SET 1 1967." The jersey features "Cardinals" embroidered across the chest in red-on-blue script lettering with the famed birds-on-bat logo highlighting the team name. Javier's uniform number "25" can be found in restored double felt (red on blue) numbering stretching 4.5" tall on the left breast area. On the jersey's reverse can be found "JAVIER" in semi-circular fashion across the shoulders in restored red-on-blue felt lettering positioned just above his restored uniform number "25" which stretches seven inches tall. The jersey shows moderate use with some slight staining and team repairs evident on the front and back. Noticeable puckering can be seen throughout.
