On May 6 1967 a pair of top middleweight contenders met at Estadio Luna Park in Buenos Aires Argentina. A standing-room only crowd of more than 9900 witnessed a 10-round battle between Argentine legend Carlos Monzon (22-0-3) and American challenger Bennie Briscoe (19-4). Per the pre-fight agreement if neither fighter was ahead by three points or more in the scoring at the end of the fight it would be ruled a draw. And thats just what happened that day as Monzon remained undefeated by earning the fourth draw of his career. They would have a rematch five years later at the exact same location; this time Monzon prevailed in a unanimous decision after 15 punishing rounds. This lot includes the pair of eight-ounce Corti black gloves that Monzon wore from that first bout in '67. We could only find photos from the rematch online. The fight-worn gloves show ample usage and both include their original white laces. A great piece of fight-worn memorabilia that belonged to the man who would become the World Middleweight Champion just three years later.
