Jim "Red" McGlothlin was an A.L. All-Star for the California Angels in 1967 but he may be best known for being part of the starting rotation for Cincinnati's "Big Red Machine" and pitching in both the 1970 and 1972 World Series. Sadly Jim passed away of cancer just a few years after his World Series appearances leaving us in 1977 at the young age of 32. Presented here is McGlothlin's 1966 Angels game worn jersey from his official rookie campaign in the majors. (He was called up late in '65 and pitched just 18 innings.) At 22 years old he started 11 games in '66 and finished with a 3-1 record in 19 total appearances for the Halos. The next year he would go 12-8 with six shutouts and a 2.96 ERA to earn his lone All-Star nod.
The white flannel button-down has the classic "ANGELS" logo across the chest with the player number "45" on the back. Letters and numbers are done in red felt outlined in navy blue tackle twill. "McGlothlin" is chain-stitched in green at the collar and also on the lower front tail along with "42" (size) and "66" (year) between the Rawlings size 42 label and wash instructions with "Set 1 1966" flag tag. The shirt displays adequate wear and has been very well-preserved. What a treat for an Angels collector or 1960's-era jersey aficionado!
Note that the image of 1967 Topps baseball card of McGlothlin is not included with this Lot. It is presented to show an image of Jim at the time.
