The St. Louis Cardinals' good-field modest-hit Gold Glove second baseman Dal Maxvill was wearing this spectacular Cardinals home uniform when he squeezed the final out of the epic 1964 World Series the coming-out party for Bob Gibson and what would be a powerhouse National League Cardinals team for much of the rest of the decade. The Series was a gripping historically significant event that ended up marking the end of the incredible Yankees dynasty that had largely ruled the MLB scene since the arrival of Babe Ruth in New York in 1920. Few might have postulated as Maxvill secured that final popup from Bobby Richardson that the Yankees would not return to the Fall Classic for a dozen years or that the three home runs managed by a hobbling Mickey Mantle would be his final ones in the postseason. More broadly the defeat of the aging Yankees marked the validation of a wider shift of dominance to the National League.

Maxvills jersey shows game use and all the markings of its era: a Size 40 red Rawlings tag appears on the front-left tail directly above the cursive embroidery "Maxvill 64" in red stitching. The red felt numbers for Maxvill's No. 27 front and back and the block-lettered name are simply stunning in their brightness and pristine condition as is the iconic Cardinals chenille script name and dual-bird logo on the front. The pants are no less impressive showing even more noticeable game use with "Maxvill 64 32 23ins" in cursive red stitching along the back of the waistband. On the front of the waistband is the Rawlings Size 32 and adjacent tag with washing instructions; the Cardinals red belt is also included with the pants. All pieces are original and unaltered. Maxvill has included a handwritten letter with the lot attesting to the use of the jersey during that historic 1964 World Series even noting that team owner Gussie Busch had ordered new unis specifically for the Series wanting "his players to look their best."

Comes with a Letter of Provenance from Dal Maxvill.
