The New York Mets debuted as the National League's newest team in 1962 but did not move into their new ballpark - "Shea Stadium" in Queens - until 1964. Shea Stadium was named in honor of William A. Shea the man who was most responsible for bringing National League baseball back to New York. It was demolished in 2009 to create additional parking for the adjacent Citi Field the current home of the Mets. This lot features a 1964 New York Mets 10K gold size 10 ring that was designed to commemorate the original opening of Shea Stadium. A Mets emblem with New York City's skyline as the background adorns the top of the ring with a small diamond and two small rubies positioned within the tall buildings. One shank features "Mr. Met" striking a batting pose while the other shank reveals Shea Stadium. Team rings such as this one were quite exclusive and usually only presented to elite front-office personnel. The interior band is engraved with "Balfour 10K" to reflect the manufacturerand gold content and "CF" to reflect the original owner. The ring exhibits moderate wear throughout.
