The old Washington Senators may have been as the wags noted "First in war first in peace and last in the American League" but they certainly looked good doing it as evidenced by this striking 1964 Washington Senators home pinstriped jersey worn by outfielder Fred Valentine. He socked 34 of his lifetime 36 homers on behalf of the citizens of the Nation's Capital so one can hope that this jersey might have been utilized in some fashion in that effort. This shirt boasts the famed Senators angled script across the chest in red-on-black tackle twill the same configuration as Valentine's No. 5 on the back all sharply framed and enhanced by the elegant blue pinstripping. The expected MacGregor Size 42 manufacturers label appears on the back of the collar and a second one on the inside of the right front tail behind the button path noting "Set 2 1964" directly above a wash instructions tag. There are six holes (as tailored) under each arm to facilitate ventilation. The all-original garment shows game use but is essentially problem free.
