Carl Yastrzemski began his major-league career in 1961. From the beginning there was tremendous pressure on him to perform as he succeeded to the position of the great Red Sox legend Ted Williams. He would prove to be a worthy successor at the plate and a far superior defensive player with a strong arm expert in playing off the Green Monster Fenway Park's left-field wall. In 12 years as a left fielder Yastrzemski won seven Gold Gloves and led in assists seven times. While his first two years were viewed as solid but unspectacular he emerged as a rising star in 1963 winning the American League batting championship with a batting average of .321 and also leading the league in doubles and walks finishing sixth in the Most Valuable Player voting. Yastrzemski enjoyed his best season in 1967 when he won the American League Triple Crown with a .326 batting average 44 home runs (tied with Harmon Killebrew) and 121 RBIs.

This 1964 Carl Yastrzemski Hillerich & Bradsby model W166 professional model bat shows evidence of heavy use with a handle crack that has been professionally repaired. Some checking (grain separation) from repeated ball contact is visible on the left barrel and has also been repaired. Several ball marks and ball stitch impressions are visible on the right and left barrel. Also visible on the bat are green and red bat rack streaks. There is a light coat of pine tar on the handle. Yastrzemski's number (8) is written on the knob in black marker. Also written on the knob in pencil is the bat's weight (31 Yz).

Provenance: The bat is accompanied by a letter that states the bat was originally obtained in the spring of 1964 from a batboy at Comiskey Park.

Includes an additional LOA from John Taube of PSA/DNA (GU9)

Also comes with a MEARS A10 LOA.
