Many older baby boomers harbor fond personal recollections of collecting 1962 Topps cards in their year of issue. Fast forward to the modern age of collecting and most aficionados of high grade cardboard have a more antagonistic view of the 1962 Topps issue. Arguably the most condition sensitive set of its era it is highlighted by the debut card of Hall of Fame great Lou Brock. Of more than 1528 examples seen by PSA this astounding example of Brocks rookie is one of only two to merit PSA's coveted Gem assessment. The card epitomizes the full glory of which the classic wood-bordered series was forever capable but oh so seldom achieved. By any definition or standard it holds up in brilliant undeniable Gem Mint condition; a resounding tribute to a uniquely talented athlete. Recognized as one of the most gifted baserunners in baseball Lou Brock helped to revolutionize the art and science of this element of the game as he totaled 938 stolen bases during his 19-year career. None of those stolen bases were more anticipated and celebrated than Brocks career stolen base number 893 the one that broke Ty Cobbs all-time record on August 29 1977. A six-time All-Star selection Brock also accumulated more than 3000 hits and helped lead the St. Louis Cardinals to three National League pennants and two World Series championships.
