Presented here is one of the finest Pelé match-worn jerseys we've ever come across, an extraordinary, hobby-fresh relic from the architect of Brazil’s golden age of football. This exquisite Brazil National Team shirt dates to 1962-64, the prime of Pelé’s legendary run when he became the greatest living athlete and cemented his homeland as the sport's global superpower.

Edson Arantes do Nascimento signed his first professional contract at just 15 years old in 1956 with Brazilian club Santos FC. The following year, Pelé made his first appearance with Brazil’s senior squad. In 1958 at the age of 17, he led Seleção to its first FIFA World Cup title in Sweden after scoring six goals in just four matches, including five in the Semifinal and Final combined. He remains the only player ever to win three World Cups and retired as Brazil’s all-time leading scorer with 77 goals in 91 caps. His record 1,283 career goals for club and country will never be touched.

The short-sleeved home model shirt displays the classic Canarinho (Little Canary) golden yellow design with a green open collar and green cuffed sleeves. Tagged by São Paulo-based kit maker Athleta, it has an early CBD (Confederação Brasileira de Desportos or Brazil Sports Confederation) crest embroidered on the left chest, with his famous number “10” on the back in green. The rounded shape of the CBD shield, collar style, period Athleta label, and green numbers help date this shirt to 1962-64 just after Brazil won its second consecutive World Cup. Heavy use is evident throughout, with significant pilling to the cotton fabric on the lower back and appropriate green color fading consistent with repeated use and laundry cycles.

From the late 1960’s to his final year on the national team in 1971, Pelé was known to give away many of his Brazil shirts after a single match. This early example, however, was clearly worn in multiple international matches. The preservation process was masterful, and it has aged wonderfully. In terms of aesthetics and genuine wear, this could arguably be the most superior Pelé gamer to surface. It comes with full authentication paperwork from MEARS, confirming accurate measurements, construction and match-worn status.
