The 1961-62 season was simply magical for Wilt Chamberlain. In just his third pro season, Wilt averaged a career high 50.4 points per game and recorded 42 points in that year’s All-Star Game against the best the NBA had to offer. At 7’-1†he was unstoppable, and his unrivaled stamina kept him in the game for an average 48 minutes. This led to Chamberlain’s incredible 100 point game on March 2, 1962, and his total of 4,029 points in 80 games. Only one other player has scored even 3,000 points in a season, and that wasn’t until Michael Jordan did it in 1986-87. This great action shots shows Chamberlain getting ready to launch a throw against the Syracuse Nationals in a game during this incredible 1961-62 season. The Type 1 photo shows nice toning from age. The reverse had several of photographer Dante O. Tranquille’s “TRANQUILLE UTICA, N.Y.†credit stamps. The photo has been encapsulated and graded a Type 1 by PSA.
