Featured here is A.G. Spalding Award presented in 1961 to Bill Sharman for his 'Outstanding Contributions to Basketball' as the plaque is stamped. Sharman had a wonderful career that put him in the Hall of Fame both as a player (1976) and a coach (2004). Playing for the Boston Celtics Sharman and Cousy formed the NBA's most formidable backcourt duo in the 1950's; together they won four NBA titles. Sharman went on to become the first head coach to win championships in three different pro leagues (ABA ABL and NBA) and was an integral part of 10 NBA titles overall that included five as a Lakers executive. Many forget that Sharman was such a good athlete that he also played in the Dodgers minor league system in the early 1950's before focusing entirely on basketball. The award comes in a black wood shadow box display measuring 10" by 7.5" in excellent condition overall. Consignor purchased it directly from the Bill Sharman Collection in the early 2000's.
