Known as "The Houdini of the Hardwood" for his creative passing and play-making abilities Bob Cousy has long been considered the first and by many the greatest true point guard in professional basketball lighting the way decades earlier for similar-sized court generals like Isiah Thomas John Stockton and Steve Nash. "Cooz" led the league in assists for eight consecutive seasons played in 13 straight All-Star Games and won six NBA Championships during Red Auerbach's coaching reign with Boston Celtics in the 1950's and 60's. He was the heart and souls of those Celtic teams with Bill Russell K.C. Jones Bill Sharman Tommy Heinsohn and Satch Sanders. "What Russell was on defense that's what Cousy was on offense - a magician" said Heinsohn. "Once that ball reached his hands the rest of us just took off never bothering to look back." In 13 seasons with Boston Cousy averaged 18.5 points and 7.6 assists per game - this during an era in which assists were only counted if the recipient scored immediately upon receiving the pass. He won many awards during his 1st ballot Hall of Fame career and here's your chance to bid on one of them: Bob Cousy's very own 1961-62 NBA All-Star 2nd Team certificate presented by The Sporting News.

The certificate is enclosed in a lovely Indian red binder stamped with "The Sporting News' All-Star Award" on the front in gold. Overall it measures 9" by 11 1/2". The binder remains in very good to excellent condition. The certificate inside is practically pristine. Both Cousy and J.G. Taylor Spink longtime editor of The Sporting News have signed the certificate in 8-9/10 black and blue ink respectively. Spink passed away in 1962 soon after signing this piece and is a legend in his own right in the field of sports journalism. A baseball writer's award bearing his name is presented every year during Baseball Hall of Fame weekend.

Comes with LOA from Bob Cousy.

Pre-certified by PSA/DNA.
