Nice trio of 1960 Rome Olympic items that belonged to Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame member A.C. "Dutch" Lonborg. A standout three-sport athlete (football basketball and baseball) at Kansas University 1917-20 Lonborg settles into a long career as a basketball coach 1923-50 best known for his 23-year stint at Northwestern. He served as KU Athletic Director 1950-63 and was team manager for the 1960 U.S. Men's Basketball Olympic squad.
The 1960 U.S. Olympic Team tie clasp is very rare. We could find records of one sold at auction before. Made by The Yale & Towne Mfg. Co. it is gold-colored and has a lovely U.S. Olympic Team shield enameled in red white and blue on the front. Mint condition.
The two patches included look like they were never sewn on and come essentially as-issued in mint condition as well. One is the standard red white and blue emblem with an "ARTHUR LONGBORG 1960" tag on the back. The other has "USA OLYMPIC TEAM 1960" in yellow on a black background.
According to the consignor all three items were sourced from the Lonborg family through reputable collector Barry Biegelson.
