The 1960 NFL season spelled the leagues 41st year in existence. It also marked a new chapter in professional football with the birth of the American Football League (AFL) as well as the arrival of the Los Angeles Chargers a team that would move to San Diego the following season. Head Coach Sid Gillman led the Chargers to the AFL Western Division title with a 104 record in the team's only season in Los Angeles. However the season ended with a 2416 loss in the AFL Championship to the Houston Oilers. This is a team-signed Spalding football from that debut season autographed in blue ink by no less than 30 members of the team including Coach Gillman quarterback Jack Kemp halfback Paul Lowe and right tackle Ron Mix.
Includes a letter of provenance from the Newport Sports Museum.
