When Leaf abandoned the baseball card market in 1949 due to producing an unrefined set in '48 Bowman was left with the sole duty of being the mainstream producer of baseball cards. It wasn't long before Topps came along to take the reigns from Bowman and kick Fleer to the fringe market of producing "baseball greats" cards.
Leaf decided to make a comeback in 1960 and part of their strategy was to partner with Sports Novelties Inc to make the 144 card black and white collection. Their master plan was to abandon candy gum and other confections and instead take a flyer by including marbles with the pack of baseball photos and they advertised them as such to avoid any legal backlash. (Pictured for your reference are several examples of what the baseball cards look like)
Featured here is a complete 1960 Leaf Baseball wax box - one of the only ones known to exist. The box is from "Series 2" and was examined and sealed by BBCE. The box was originally consigned to us in "open" form so we know that all of the packs inside of the BBCE seal are genuine and have all been authenticated as such by the firm.
Steve Hart of BBCE had made mention that some of the packs had minor rips along the top from the marbles shifting around but that is to be expected from the extremely rare marble sets that he's seen. A really unique opportunity for any serious collector to get their hands on a very important sealed box from the 1960 Leaf Marbles set.
