Bill White debuted in the big leagues with the New York Giants in 1956. After a brief stint in the U.S. Army, he was traded to the St. Louis Cardinals in 1959, where he blossomed into a perennial star. As the anchor of the Cardinals' infield, he won six consecutive Gold Gloves in St. Louis (seven total) and made eight All-Star appearances. His finest season came in 1963, when he posted career highs in hits (200), home runs (27)0, and RBI (109). The following year, White finished third in National League MVP voting and helped guide the Cardinals to a 1964 World Series title. White further cemented his legacy by becoming the first Black MLB play-by-play broadcaster and later the first Black president of a major sports league when he replaced Bart Giamatti as NL president in 1989.
This 1959 Bill White St. Louis Cardinals game-worn and signed home jersey is constructed in cream flannel with the two-birds-on-a-bat "Cardinals" script across the chest and a red "12" on the back. The interior collar carries the Rawlings "Hall of Fame Flannel" tag sized 44, with "59" hand-stitched in red beneath the label, confirming the season of issue.
White has signed the front in bold black marker, his signature clear and fully legible against the cream fabric. The jersey shows expected vintage wear throughout, including light overall toning and scattered surface marks consistent with game use from this era, with all original tagging, lettering, and embroidery intact and undisturbed. A clean, clearly signed home jersey from White's tenure with the Cardinals, presenting strong eye appeal for a flannel of this age.
Includes letter from MEARS graded a perfect A10. Autograph authentication from Steve Grad.
