Southpaw pitcher Carl Duser was signed as an amateur free agent by the Philadelphia Athletics before the 1954 season and spent his first season in pro ball with the Lancaster Red Roses of the Class B Piedmont League where he went 7-9 with a 3.84 ERA. He spent his second season with the Columbus Jets of the International League going 8-7 with a 4.32 ERA. The 25-year-old Korean War veteran stayed with the Columbus club for the 1956 season going 6-7 and oddly enough the now-Kansas City Athletics saw something in the pitcher that warranted giving him a late-season look. He debuted in MLB on Sept. 15th. Duser would split a pair of decisions in two starts for the Athletics with his only big league victory coming against the Washington Senators. Duser garnered another look by the Athletics the following season making a lone appearance out of the bullpen on April 23 1958. This completed Duser's time in the majors with a 1-1 record and a 7.88 ERA. A serious knee injury in a head-on automobile crash later that year ended his career at age 26.

This lot feature's Duser's lightly worn 1958 Kansas City Athletics game-worn home jersey. The white flannel jersey reads "Athletics" across the front in red felt lettering outlined in blue. The front left tail is adorned with the proper Wilson manufacturer's tag denoting [size] 42 complete with washing instructions. Situated above the Wilson tag is black chain stitching that reads "Set 1 No 1 58." Black piping runs the length of the front of the jersey wrapping around the collar and also around both sleeves. The left sleeve features the A's embroidered elephant logo complete with an oversized baseball and bat. The back of the jersey sports Duser's uniform number "14" in red felt letters outlined in blue. The jersey shows light use and displays beautifully.
