The winningest left-handed pitcher of all time and possibly the best as well Warren Spahn was a complete player who helped himself at bat and in the field. He was the mainstay of the Braves' pitching staff for two decades. Spahn won 20 games a ML record-tying 13 times pitched two no-hitters and led the NL in strikeouts four consecutive years. In 1957 at the age of 36 Spahn led the Braves to the pennant with a 21-11 2.69 record and began a string of five consecutive seasons leading the NL in wins. In the 1957 World Series he won Game Four in relief as the Braves beat the Yankees in seven games. He also won his one and only Cy Young Award in 1957 despite being a perennial candidate.

Dating from arguably Spahns most important season this jersey demonstrates the aesthetics that made the Braves jerseys from the period the most admired garments in baseball. Adorning the chest is the red and black felt "Braves 21" along with the embroidered felt tomahawk iconography. Number "21" is repeated on verso. The screaming Indian patch on the left sleeve has been lost to the passing decades but its stitching pattern is clearly evident making proper application of a replacement an easy task. The embroidered "Spahn" swatch at interior collar remains firmly affixed while the "1957" year swatch in the tail hangs on by a few original stitches beneath the "Wilson [size] 42" and washing instructions labels. Various condition issues include a broken front zipper and a degree of staining a mixture of dark soiling and the bleeding of the red dye from the felt identifiers released from dampness encountered through improper storage. These issues notwithstanding the historical relevance of the jersey remains undiminished.
