If you're a college basketball nut and pay close attention to acronyms like RPI and SOS, then you have Denny Crum to thank. It was the longtime Louisville head coach who started the trend of scheduling tough non-conference matchups early in the season to prepare his teams for the "madness" of March. Perhaps that is why Crum's battle-tested Cardinals performed so well in the NCAA Tourney when it mattered most, making six Final Fours and winning two National Championships (1980 and '86). Long before "Mr. March" (or "Cool Hand Luke" due to his calm demeanor) became a Hall of Fame coach, Crum matriculated at UCLA where he played for the legendary John Wooden. The junior college transfer spent two seasons playing for Wooden, then returned after he graduated to learn from the best. He spent eight seasons assisting the "Wizard of Westwood" and was part of three NCAA title teams. In 1971, Louisville called and the rest is history.
Presented here is Denny Crum's 1957-58 UCLA Bruins game-worn home jersey. It is the only known jersey from his playing career to surface. The off-white durene jersey has a large "UCLA" arched across the chest with his No. "30" on the front and back. All letters and numbers are done in yellow gold on navy blue tackle twill. Appropriate Rawlings size "40" tagging and washing instructions appear just inside the left front tail. The sleeveless arms are lined in UCLA classic team colors. The vintage shirt is very well-preserved and shows heavy wear, the only blemishes being a fabric snag on the lower front and some light spot toning throughout. Includes LOA from MEARS with a near-perfect A9.5 grade.
