The 1956 World Series may have ended in a hard-fought New York Yankees victory in seven games, but that is not what that decisive Game 7 is remembered for in the history books. That game is most remembered today for being Jackie Robinson's final game.
Robinson was struck out to end the series, and end his career, but his lasting impact and legacy today is striking down the color barrier in professional baseball. He played in six World Series and made six All Star Game appearances throughout his career with the Brooklyn Dodgers. The legendary Martin Luther King Jr. said that Jackie was "a legend and a symbol in his own time," who "challenged the dark skies of intolerance and frustration."
