The 1956 Pittsburgh Pirates managed by Bobby Bragan finished seventh in the National League standings that season with a mark of 66-88. Though their record was unremarkable the team’s lineup was full of memorable players. This lot features an official National League (Giles) baseball signed in blue ink by 23 members of the club including manager Bobby Bragan on the sweet spot and a very young right fielder by the name of Roberto Clemente who signed on the bottom of the west panel. In addition to Clemente another Hall of Famer’s signature on this baseball is Bill Mazeroski the hero of the 1960 World Series who is best is best known for his walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth inning in Game 7. Other notable signatures include Bill Virdon Dick Groat Bob Friend Frank Thomas Eddie O’Brien Dick Hall Vern Law Ron Kline Dale Long Bob Skinner and coach Danny Murtaugh. Matching overall 7-9/10 blue ink signatures on an unused slightly off-white baseball showing a little toning.
