Directly from the family estate collection of Barney Stein comes this large-format 11" by 14" original photograph of Jackie Robinson famously stealing home during Game 1 of the 1955 World Series at Yankee Stadium. There have been many shots taken at various angles of Jackie sliding over home plate under the tag of Yankees catcher Yogi Berra (who went to his grave believing Jackie was out) in the top of the 8th inning. This one by the renowned Dodgers photographer comes from a unique vantage point and provides great perspective of this iconic moment frozen in time, right before the umpire signals, "Saaaafe!"
The pinpoint image is clear enough to make out hundreds of intense fan faces behind the Dodgers/visitor's dugout. Even though the Yankees took Game 1, Jackie's steal of home remains arguably the most famous stolen base in MLB history. The Dodgers would go on to win their only World Series in Brooklyn.
This black and white original photo in pristine condition was printed off the original negative from the famous photographer's camera many years later. It has been professionally framed with a lovely white matting inside a thick wooden border (made of ash like most baseball bats). This exact framed photo was on display as part of the Barney Stein Photo Collection exhibit in 2001 at the Frick Art and Historical Museum in Pittsburgh, PA. (Certificate from this exhibit is included on the reverse side.)
