This lot features a 1955 Bowman Baseball partial set, containing 212 cards out of the 320. The instantly recognizable television-based design makes one of the more distinct looking sets from the period. Each card features a wood panel frame showcasing stars in a horizontal layout, with the only other attributes being the player's last name next to his image and a "Color TV" notation along bottom.
This hobby-fresh set comes mostly in low to mid-grade condition. We submitted just three cards for grading and they came back rather disappointing: #179 Hank Aaron – SGC VG 3; #184 Willie Mays – SGC GD+ 2.5; and #303 J.B “Jocko” Conlan (Umpire) – SGC AUTHENTIC (Trimmed). Mays has a very nice front, but has a toned spot and nearly MC on the back. The Conlan measures out to the correct dimensions to us, but we're not the experts. Still, its NM quality certainly warrants crack-out consideration. The rest of the cards in raw form average mostly VG to EX.
Hall of Famers, stars and other notables shown in images are #1 Wilhelm GD, #23 Kaline EX+, #38 Wynn VG (OC), #65 Don Zimmer RC VG-EX, #60 Slaughter GD+, #68 Elston Howard RC VG, #89 Boudreau VG, #97 Podres VG, #103 Mathews, #134 Feller VG, #158 Hodges GD+, #171 Roberts VG-EX, #143 Newcombe VG-EX+, #160 Skowron VG, #169 Furillo VG-EX, #191 Lemon VG-EX, #197 Kiner GD, #211 Dixon EX-MT, #213 Kell VG-EX, #242 Banks FR, #283 Chylak (Ump) EX, #296 Virdon VG-EX, #315 Hubbard (Ump) RC VG, #320 Susce RC EX.
