This is a fascinating document from the great Willie Mays the official contract he signed in July of 1954 to appear on the popular CBS television program Whats My Line? The show was a mainstay of the CBS prime-time lineup a panel show that had mystery guests appearing and answering questions from an illustrious panel of 1950s celebs and gadflies to determine his work and ultimately identity. For the princely sum of $300 The Say Hey Kid appeared on the program on July 11 1954 in the middle of his first MVP season. The second page of the contract features a Willie Mays signature markedly different than what it would become many years and so many thousands of autographs later. The document is a true treasure for any fan of the Hall of Famer bolstered by an early Mays signature that has been duly blessed and authenticated by James Spence Authentication (full letter).
