Former major leaguer Wally Moon madequite a splash in 1954 during his rookie season with the St. LouisCardinals. Not only did the 24-year-old lead the league in plateappearances with 724 but he collected 193 hits and drove in 76 runs onhis way to batting .304. He was rewarded for his remarkable debit seasonnu being named the National League’s “Rookie of the Year.” Featured here is Moon’s gorgeous 1954 St. Louis Cardinals game-worn roadjersey.
Preserved in completely original unaltered condition theoffered gray flannel zip-front pullover jersey marks a season in whichthe Cardinals finished sixth in the N.L. with a record of 72-82. Thestunning Cardinals road jersey displays the team name in red and blackfelt script across the front with Moon’s No. 20 in red felt with navyblue outline on the reverse. The jersey front includes the classicembroidered “birds on bat” Cardinals’ logo across the chest. TheRawlings manufacturing “Hall of Fame” tag remains sewn on the insiderear collar with a Size '42' adjacent flag tag. On the left front tailis sewn “W Moon 54 – 2” in red stitching. The interior front tailreveals a dry clean tag along with a 'Set 1 1954' flag tag. Red pipingoutlines the length of the jersey’s zipper and continues around thecollar and encircles both short sleeve openings. The jersey shows goodwear but remains in outstanding original condition with superb displayqualities.
