Gorgeous participation medal from the 1954 British Empire and Commonwealth Games in Vancouver the site of the "Miracle Mile" between Roger Bannister and John Landy. It was the first race between two sub four-minute milers and also the first time two runners broke four minutes in the same race
Obverse has "1954 V-BRITISH EMPIRE AND COMMONWEALTH GAMES VANCOUVER CANADA" with a raised chain-link surrounding image. Reverse has several different sports depicted with an idol-looking statue at center. Engraved "R.S. DEVONALD" on rim at top. He competed for Wales in Lawn Bowl Men's Four competition. Maker/minter "BIRKS" stamped on rim at bottom. Appears to be made of bronze or silver and plated in a gold-colored finish. 55 mm in diameter. Mint. Comes in its original black presentation case.
