Ferenc Puskás is widely regarded as one of the greatest footballers who ever lived, a thunder-footed striker whose goals for Hungary's legendary "Golden Team" and Real Madrid defined an era. The forward and attacking midfielder scored 84 goals in 85 international matches for Hungary (1945-56) and was later capped in four matches for Spain (1961-62) after becoming a naturalized Spanish citizen. In addition to his scoring prowess, no European player has ever assisted on more goals in international competition than his 53.
Thanks to the "Galloping Major" as he was called, Hungary won gold at the 1952 Olympics in Helsinki, had a record 25 match unbeaten streak that ended in 1953, and made the 1954 World Cup Final in Switzerland. After a dominant club run at Budapest Honvéd (1943-56), Puskás joined Real Madrid and led Los Blancos to three European Cups and five La Liga titles in eight seasons to close out his legendary career. The IFFHS named him the greatest top division scorer of the 20th century as his 802 goals in 792 official club matches are the seventh most all-time by any professional footballer.
This Puskás match-worn #10 jersey from the 1954-55 period dates to the twilight of his glorious run with the Hungarian National Team. The long-sleeve away model jersey is constructed of cream-white heavyweight cotton featuring a classic open spread collar with a V-placket, an elegant period design typical of Eastern European football kits in the 1950's. The left chest bears an elaborate embroidered Hungarian team crest in gold, red, and green, incorporating a red star above the socialist-era coat of arms. The back displays a large felt "10" (the number Puskás wore his entire career for club and country) in navy blue block style. The shirt exhibits fabric pilling and light sweat staining consistent with repeated match use. No manufacturer tagging is present. The 70+ year old gamer from one of the greatest European footballers in history has been extremely well-preserved for the next owner to display prominently. Includes letter of authenticity from MEARS.
