The rain-shortened 1952 All-Star Game was an exciting seesaw event. The game got off with a bang when Jackie Robinson took Vic Raschi deep with a 1st inning solo shot. The AL regrouped for two runs and took the lead in the top of the 4th. Then, with the rain closing in on Philadelphia's Shibe Park, Stan Musial got on base when he was hit by a Bob Lemon pitch. Hank Sauer then powered a ball over the outfield wall for a 3-2 edge. Umpires called the game an inning later giving the NL the win.
This Spalding ONL (Giles) ball collects the bulk of the victorious lineup from the game among its 27 signatures and presents in spectacular condition. There are ten Hall of Famers present: Jackie Robinson, Roy Campanella, Stan Musial, Duke Snider, Monte Irvin, Warren Spahn, Leo Durocher, Ralph Kiner, Red Schoendienst and Robin Roberts, along with 1952’s other National League standouts Grady Hatton, Russ Meyer, Jim Hearn, Toby Atwell, Jerry Staley, Al Dark, Curt Simmons, Bobby Thomson, Granny Hamner, Sal Maglie, Hank Sauer, Bob Rush, Carl Furillo, Gil Hodges, Eddie Stanky and Freddie Fitzsimmons. The ball shows light toning and the signatures stand out nicely against the creamy white leather. PSA/DNA has graded this gorgeous ball 7.5 overall, with an 8 for the signatures and a 7 for the ball itself. There may not be a better ’52 All-Star example in the market.
