Featured here is an Olympic gold medal from the 1952 Summer Games in Helsinki Finland. It is one of the rarest Olympic medals from the post-war era as only 320 were minted and only a select number of these remain from the various champions who won an individual or team event at the Games 62 years ago. It is extremely rare to find one offered at public auction. The medal which is actually gilt silver (as all gold medals produced after 1912 are) is lettered "XV Olympia Helsinki 1952" in raised relief on the front with a triumphant athletic scene depicted on the reverse. Incredibly well-preserved both in color and texture the medal (2" in diameter) remains in NM/MT condition displaying very few rim nicks and the slightest of wear from human touch. It comes in its original blue presentation case (also EX/MT) featuring the Olympic logo on the lid. Although the recipient and event are unknown the medal survives as an extraordinary Olympic artifact the likes of which are rarely made available to the collecting public.
