The 1949 World Series pitted the Brooklyn Dodgers against the New York Yankees with the Yankees winning in five games for their second defeat of the Dodgers in three years and their 12th championship in team history. This victory would start a record run of five consecutive World Series championships by the Yankees and was also the first of 14 American League pennants in 16 years (19491964 except for 1954 and 1959) for the Bronx Bombers.
This lot features a framed and matted display piece containing not only an original 1949 World Series Program cover but two separate pieces of paper sporting 18 different players signatures the 49 Yankees. Notable signatures include Hall of Famers Yogi Berra Phil Rizzuto Johnny Mize and Joe DiMaggio along with Ralph Burton (twice) Cliff Mapes (twice) Clarence Cuddles Marshall Joe Page and Fred Sanford. An unidentifiable 19th signature most likely belongs to the collector himself. Incredible piece of sports memorabilia commemorating the true start of the Yankees dynasty that would own the league over practically the next two decades. All signatures are in blue ink and remain very legible and strong.
